VIC - BRINGING HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE
My name is Vic and I am the school chaplain at Bayview Secondary College, Rokeby Primary and Clarendon Vale Primary. Prior to this role, I was self-employed, and after completing a Diploma of Community Services (Christian Ministry), I was involved with schools-based ministry and church youth work.
In 2008 I became a chaplain with SU Tas. A typical day for me starts with breakfast club. This could then be followed by support in classes, working with a single student or in small group activities (gardening, electronics, building projects or computer coding).
The aim is to build relationships with students so they are comfortable sharing their needs and allowing me to support them when needed. These schools have very complex needs and our young people face a wide range of challenges. A large percentage of our students come from areas with high social and economic disadvantage.
My work is so vitally important as I have the opportunity to spend quality time interacting with students in ways that other staff often don’t have time. The vision of SU Tas is to bring HOPE for the future to young people. As a chaplain my desire is to help young people be equipped to make positive life choices and realise their great potential.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
