SONYA - BRINGING HOPE AT MOWBRAY HEIGHTS PRIMARY
My name is Sonya and I am the school chaplain at Mowbray Heights Primary. My husband and I and our two sons live in Launceston. I have a background in hairdressing and am a teachers aide. I love to laugh and enjoy art, baking and reading, and am looking forward to being involved with SU Camps with family and school students.
I feel very blessed to be a part of such a compassionate and multi-cultural school that is unique due to the diversity of students and families. My day begins with Breakfast Club which gives me time to chat with many children as they eat their toast. I support children one-one with their school work and if they need a break from the classroom we can go for a kick of the footy, do some painting, drawings or bake. This is a great way for them to find a different perspective as we get to know each other. As our relationship builds it provides them with assurance of love and support for them and an awareness that they are important.
Being available for children who are finding life difficult or struggling with learning is very important, as children need time with those who have the time to listen. The aim of SU Tas is to bring hope for the future to children, and through the support and guidance that I can help provide, students can become resilient individuals that realise their full potential in life.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
