PETER - BRINGING HOPE TO SCOTTSDALE PRIMARY
My name is Peter. Prior to becoming a chaplain with SU Tas, I worked for SU Victoria as a co-ordinator on the Bellarine Peninsula, spending many hours in various high schools. I was then employed as a chaplain at Little River Primary School in Victoria. A leap of faith led me to Tassie and the opportunity to get involved with SU Tas.
In my role as chaplain, the day starts with Breakfast Club, which is a great opportunity to meet many students. Sometimes I may be assigned particular students to work alongside or I may spend some one-on-one time with a student to play basketball or just chat.
A chaplain’s role is very different from that of a teacher or teacher’s aide. I want to be a positive male role model to all I meet. One of my main goals is to build relationships with young people and support them in their journey through life. I achieve this in the classroom or out in the school yard as I connect with students of all grade levels. By simply being a presence in the school community, my role enables me to achieve SU Tas’ aim of bringing ‘hope to young people’ and being there for them whenever they need me.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
