CHRISTINE - BRINGING HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE AT ST HELENS DHS
My name is Christine, and I am the school chaplain to the Break O’Day Region and working at St Helens District High School. I am passionate about teaching Youth Mental Health First Aid to school students and the wider community. I have worked with children, teens and young people for over 30 years.
Our young people today do not have a lot to look forward to with little work and resources available. Mental health problems are a large component in our region, and there is huge need for our community to be educated about these issues and empower young people to be aware of and support each other.
As school chaplain, I am in a unique position to cater for this need. I run small group programs within the school, focusing on self-esteem, confidence building, resilience and peer issues. During school breaks, I offer a peaceful space where students can come and ‘chill out’. In bringing social and emotional support to the entire school community, I am also available to staff and parents should they need a confidential ear to listen to them.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
