RACHEL - BRINGING HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE AT WOODBRIDGE SCHOOL

My name is Rachel and I am the school chaplain at Woodbridge School. My previous line of work was in event management for a couple of different Christian networks, but I trained to be a chaplain in 2016 and this is my third school since then. I am feeling very comfortable here at Woodbridge and am embracing the challenge of introducing myself, paving out my role, and caring for students, staff and families.

Woodbridge School functions within a very diverse community. There are many new families to the area, and some are affected by a range of issues including financial burdens or social and mental health issues.

I see my role as being a safe and kind person that students can come to for a listening ear and warm smile whilst they receive the additional support they need. My daily schedule includes a variety of tasks, such as informal check-ins throughout the school day, taking a small group of kids for discussions around life/social skills, or spending recess or lunch with someone who needs to talk. I keep an ear out for issues that require a referral to the social worker, as well as pass on relevant information where appropriate. My work is so important as I am able to help young people realise their worth and encourage them to make aspirational goals and positive and meaningful choices for their lives.

The aim of SU Tas is to bring hope for the future, and together with generous supporters, I am able to show hope at Woodbridge School by promoting a caring, respectful and positive culture in the school. As I grow in this role, I hope in God's time that I will be used as a pillar of strength and beacon of light to families who desperately need hope in their lives.

My work can only continue with the ongoing support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
