NAOMI - BRINGING HOPE TO GIRLS AT OGILVIE HIGH
I have been supporting and mentoring young people (particularly young women) for over 20 years. I have been a dance school director for many of these and used this to encourage healthy self-esteem and positive self-value. I have also run small group programs for over 10 years in high schools and the women’s prison to guide and teach emotional intelligence, the value of wisdom and self-care.
My work as a chaplain enables me to continue to support young people as they transition through various stages of life. Every day is different: it could be one-to-one encouragement and support, running programs for year groups, helping to navigate relationships with others, well-being activities, mentoring, and more.
My role is unique in the school because I am solely employed to be a supportive and positive staff member whose attention is not divided through running academic classes or achieving other outcomes. I am able to individualise my care to the needs of the student and give them the time they need in order to resolve their issue or concern. The aim of SU Tas is to bring young people hope, and I am giving them a vision for their future by equipping them with the tools to begin a journey towards their goals.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
