ELISE - BRINGING HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE IN SWANSEA
My name is Elise, and I am the school chaplain at Swansea Primary School. After travelling Australia, working in a variety of education and care roles, I moved to the beautiful east coast of Tasmania. Having completed a Bachelor of Education (Primary), a Diploma of Children’s Services and a Masters of Education majoring in Health and Wellbeing, I felt I had the skills and experience to make a positive difference in the lives of young people at Swansea Primary School.
Young people face many challenges in their day-to-day lives. In my role as school chaplain I am able to provide the care and support that teachers simply don’t have time to provide. I support students and families who are suffering from bereavement, family breakdown or other crisis and loss situations. I provide a listening ear to students, staff and family members and help the school provide practical support such as the school breakfast program and small group activities.
Chaplaincy is especially important in remote schools such as Swansea Primary School as families don’t have access to many of the support services provided in larger towns and cities. Chaplaincy provides a holistic approach to welfare and can provide direction and hope to families in need. I am thankful to those who support me, allowing each child at Swansea to be connected and supported in the community, serving others, and experiencing fullness of life.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
