BEN - BRINGING HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE IN LAUNCESTON
My name is Ben, and I’m the school chaplain at East Tamar Primary School.
I am a qualified social worker and have worked with young people across
various contexts prior to becoming a school chaplain.
In my role as school chaplain, I am able to be a witness for God within the school through my actions and words – being caring, supportive and non-judgemental. Working with students individually and in groups, I provide a
trusted, caring and affirming presence in the school and
am available to listen and provide appropriate support to students.
Spirituality can often be overlooked in school curricula, yet it has been proven as important for development. As a chaplain I am able to cater for this need and offer programs to develop self-esteem, grow peer support, deal with grief and loss, and build personal resilience.
The aim of SU Tas is to help young people and their families have hope for the
future. As a chaplain I model Jesus in my actions and am committed to assist all
within the school community to reach their full potential in life. This approach
embodies hope and works towards building positive futures.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
