ALICE - BRINGING HOPE TO BRACKNELL & MOWBRAY HEIGHTS PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Hi, my name is Alice, and I am school chaplain at Bracknell Primary School and Mowbray Heights Primary School. I studied secondary teaching and have worked in schools, with diverse cultures and communities in Australia and overseas and in the childcare sector including as an in-home childcare worker to support families. My love of working with children is a big part of who I am and what I do!
Starting in Beach Missions with SU NSW as a teen, I soon discovered that sharing ‘good news’ changes everything! Growing up on the Northern Beaches in Sydney and now having Tassie adventures I am delighted with the opportunities I have to show love in practical ways to children and their communities.
As a chaplain, I help facilitate Little Possums early learning, provide classroom support, meet with children outside the classroom to support learning, run a craft time to support peer relationships, encourage students and help them thrive creatively. Previously, I have run programs including Inside Out for Kids- Grief and Loss mentoring, art classes, gardening and programs for building peer relationships and identity. I enjoy all kinds of visual arts, drama, writing, and being ‘out and about’ enjoying our beautiful landscape here in Tassie.
My favourite quote from missionary, Jim Elliott- “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
In a world that is getting increasingly more challenging and unpredictable, I know chaplaincy is making a huge difference.
The work of chaplaincy will only continue with the support of the community and generous Tasmanians. Your gift will help support my work and school chaplaincy into the future!
